Heidi Klum was conceived in Bergisch Gladbach in Germany in June of 1973. Erna Klum was her mother. Gunther was her father, and was a high-ranking executive for the cosmetics company. Heidi's father worked as Director of Production for the fragrance firm 4711. Her home town was Bergisch Gladbach, a small city with about 100,000 people situated six miles away from Cologne was where she grew up. A girlfriend (Karin) advised the 18-year-old student to enter an German TV talent show known as Model 92. The show, sponsored by German Women's Magazine Petra was an evening talk show that was hosted by Thomas Gottschalk. Klum took on thousands of contestants from across Germany and Europe until she was the third semi-finalist. Klum was awarded a top $300,000 model prize in the month of April, 1992.
